However old you are, wherever you live, or whatever is your career goals are, it’s likely your ultimate goals in life are to be happy and successful. To be successful means more than just having money and making your mark. It means following your passions, living purposefully, and enjoying the present moment.
Each person perceives success differently. Most of them, who could not clearly define success are often restless.
Success is not a destination, it’s a mindset with which you live your life. Let say for me, success is when I’ve travelled to 10 countries. Supposedly, I do it and return from the 10th country of my travel. What should I do? I’m successful right? Shall I end my life? No! Success is something that cannot be bound with time. Like for example, “I will be successful when I see the world.”. True success cannot be confined to one goal as well. Success is never-ending.
It’s human nature to look for the quick fixes and get-rich-quick schemes — even though those methods are often temporary and incredibly ineffective.
People look for quick fixes, get-to-rich-quick schemes. These methods are temporary & effective, but with bad consequences. People often choose a path of low resistance. Success is a hard feat to achieve, but not impossible.

# Define Sucess
Defining Success is the most important part of this guide. We tend to measure success with salary, status, car etc. but that is not a success. It has to be a continuous process. Though you require to win over many challenges or complete different tasks, to ultimately become successful. Few examples of success definition, I want to … :

– Ease transportation
– Remove poverty
– Educate everyone
Out of the many examples above, none of them is time bounded. Thus, It will be a rare possibility that any one of the above will be completed. There are almost 200 countries in the world (48 countries in Asia alone). How can I see the world? But that doesn’t mean I will be never successful. I will keep travelling, keep exploring. Will keep balance with my family, social connect & work life as well.
So, the first step is to figure out what success means to you. Some may take time realizing what you want to do, identifying passions, interests & values will help you set goals. Goal setting gives a sense of meaning to your life. You may seek advice from near ones about your passion.

What will your legacy be like?
How would you like to be remembered by others?
What are some favourite subjects of interest in your life? For example, think of subjects you enjoyed studying in school. Ask why you liked them.

Set S.M.A.R.T Goals for life. Where SMART stands for
S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Achievable
R – Relevant

Yes, this may contradict to the definition of success, that it cannot be time-bounded. But remember, Success is a cumulative outcome of many goals. So, set SMART goals for all aspects of life. Health, Wealth, Family, Leisure etc., Let say one of your goals is to reduce weight. What will be the goal? “I want to reduce weight”. What will be a SMARTER version of this? “I want to reduce my weight by 10 Kgs in 1 month.” Another improvised version is Positive SMART goes like “In 1 month my weight will be 10kgs lighter”.
See the difference in all 3 sentences. The last one looks more confident & motivating. It also shows the determination. So setting +SMART goals is the first thing to do. And Yes, dream big. Make sure you address both short-term and long-term goals. Cover all aspects of life i.e Career, Financial, Relationship etc. If you feel a goal is too big to achieve break it down to smaller ones. Make them more specific & with a timeline. Every time you achieve smaller goals, it will enhance your motivation & positivity.
# Live Purposefully
Give meaning to life. Don’t DayDream. Instead, dream big & Draw it out on a cardboard. Place that dream in your wardrobe, on the wall or anywhere which will always be in your vision. Start paying attention to your actions. Just check each action of yours. Is your current action helping to achieve the life goals on that cardboard? Cherish the moment. During free time, do what you enjoy. Don’t be a couch potato or waste time. Many times, everything that you do may not be productive, but make sure it’s engaging towards the life goals. Take a break, don’t get too stressed out of it. Balance it out between ‘present me’ & ‘I want to be —-‘.
# Be Committed
So you have drawn all the dreams on the cardboard. What next? Planning is not sufficient. Each goal is time bound. Work toward getting that done well in time. Do NOT over commit. Out of all be honest with yourself. Do not cancel plans & definitely twice with the same person. Stick to your commitments & hang in there. Make a timely review of your goals & check direction.
# Educate Yourself
Learn, Learn & Learn. If your parent were not able to give you formal education, try learning skills that can help you financially. Learning raises questions & questions inculcates interests. If you are a student, and your parents are giving you a formal education. You’re in luck, embrace it. Study hard.
Earth is a place where you cannot survive without money unless you grow your own food. Managing money ensures financial stability in future. I’m not saying don’t spend money at all. But spend wisely. The previous step will help you get better jobs. From your first salary, itself start saving & investing. Keep track of your expenses. Taxes, check how can you save on them. Every time you pull out your wallet for cash or card, check which life goals you are engaging with. If it is not a part of Goal, is this worth the spend?
Time is precious. Manage your tasks so that they get completed in a reasonable time. Prioritize tasks with timelines. Improper management of tasks can stress you out. You’re bound to make errors if you do not assign priority to each of them. Be organized through the day, week & month.
As suggested above, stay committed to the timeline as well. [PS: Keep a buffer of around 10% of the time for each task. Use this 10% of the time as leisure time. And just by knowing the fact that, ‘If I end this task early I will have more time for that leisure activity’ makes you more focused on the task & increases efficiency.

#Live Now, not in past, not in Future
Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery! So live now. If you are constantly thinking about what happened in the past, you are not doing anything productive. Daydreaming about the future is no different.
Our minds have multiple thoughts at any given time. These thoughts are a mix of positives and negatives. Positive thoughts uplift your mood. Keeps a smile on the face. Negative thoughts kill the motivation, disturbs the focus. There are simple ways to control negative thoughts. Simplest of them is, acknowledge & let it go, don’t over think on that thought. With a positive thought, comes a positive attitude.

Don’t compare your life with others, you don’t know what they have gone through or what kind of hard work they did. Value your life for its own sake. Everyone has there has a story, no one is perfect. What’s missing from your life, is present in other’s life but it goes vice-versa.
What they are missing in life, is part of your life. In life, everyone faces tragedy, insecurity & difficulties. Compare with who were you yesterday. Have you done more than yesterday to accomplish any one of the life goals? Comparing with one above you will always put you down. Instead, look at the homeless, foodless & poor. Thank god for your life & appreciate what you have. Better, volunteer to help people who are homeless & without food. This will satisfy you and make you feel happy.
Do you ever think, how many people pray for you? Count your blessings. Appreciating people who love you. Your parents, siblings, they all love you and pray for you. Make memories with them and cherish them. Pray for them. Think beyond materialistic things.
Health is Wealth. Health body supports a healthy mind. Eat healthy food, a balanced one. Its okay to have that one samosa, but not every day. Get up early, exercise. Go for a walk, Cycling for at least 20 mins. If you feel, take advice from a trusted source.
#Look for Opportunities
Life will give you many opportunities, good & bad both. You should be wise enough to choose them. If you face a dilemma, ask yourself: Would this contribute towards any of my goals? Decide accordingly. Remember, opportunities don’t come again. But that doesn’t mean that you throw away everything for this one thing. Most of the people go unsuccessful because they either take the wrong opportunity or leave everything else for one thing. If you see a new opening, include it to the goal list, allocate appropriate time to it, re-prioritize things. But don’t let everything go off.
The positive energy of others helps you have positive thoughts. Surround yourself with positive people. Make friends with people whom you admire & people you feel are successful in their own ways. Don’t be jealous of them, their success is not a threat to you. If a person doesn’t make you motivated, positive & confident – get away. Set boundaries from negative people. If such negative people are from close family, limit time that you spend with them. Identify such relationships in personal or professional life which stresses you out. Instead look for mentors, advisers, who can bring positivity in you.
Working late hours, will not increase your salary. It will get you a promotion but at cost of health, personal life. You will be only increasing stress on you.
